December 2025 Newsletter

Thank you Friends who shopped our Holiday Pop-up sale and dined at School Street Foods with us! 2025 is coming to a close which means the annual appeal is just around the corner. Membership and book sales drives the majority of our fundraising efforts so please consider renewing (or joining!) to help FOLL continue to help the Lynnfield Public Library provide all the amazing programs and workshops coming up.

November 2025 Newsletter

We had such an amazing day for the Fall Book Sale. Thank you to our volunteers and community! The holiday season is quickly approaching, which means the Holiday Pop-up Book Sale is right around the corner. Get your holiday shopping started early with some deals!

October Town Meeting

Town Meeting has a few articles in the warrant that could (positively) impact the Lynnfield Public Library.

TLDR: Voting YES for Articles: 9, 10, & 12 lead to zoning changes in South Library for partial commercial use which means it can be sold as such for more than it’s current residential zoning. A sale of the property can help fund the much needed replacement of LPL’s roof.

The article’s full explanation here…

October 2025

This year due to a reduced budget FOLL will be supporting 100% of the Lynnfield Public Library’s programs. As a result, we are working hard on more fundraising efforts and grant writing. This month’s newsletter is covering what is coming up this fall for FOLL.

September 2025

The FOLL board is back from a nice summer break and gearing up for the Fall Book Sale, 10/3-10/4 at the Meeting House.

Summer Newsletter

Dear Friends,

Thank you to all our volunteers that helped with the Spring Book Sale. Even with the location change and trying to fit the Spring Sale into the Library we still had a very successful book sale raising just under $3,000!! We could not have done it without you.

As it is the end of our “year” and we slow down for a summer break, I also wanted to thank our volunteers for all the support through the New Building Project, the proposed renovation, all our book sales, tables at other community events, the restaurant fundraisers and getting out to vote for the override. While not all of what we wanted was achieved, the Friends of the Library has provided much needed support. The Library staff, trustees, and the FOLL board are all so appreciative.

June Newsletter

The override vote has large impacts on the Lynnfield Public Library. Be sure to have your voice heard by taking time to vote June 4th at Lynnfield High School.

A YES vote provides enough funding to maintain Lynnfield Public Library certification, Senior Center programming, and Lynnfield Public School student needs.

A NO vote for the override results in significant reductions in staff, services, programming, technology and more for LPS, Library, and Senior Center.

May Newsletter

Thank you Lynnfield for a RECORD turnout on Tuesday! The override was passed at Town Meeting now we move on to a ballot vote Wednesday, June 4th. FOLL will continue to provide information about how and where to vote and the affects of a passed/failed override for the Library.

Please join us for our monthly meeting, 5/5, to help provide input, ideas and support.

Lynnfield Public Library has contributed so much to our community, we will continue to advocate for a FULLY funded Library.

Town Meeting Override – Supporting the Lynnfield Public Library means supporting the upcoming Override.

The past month FOLL has been learning about library funding, town budgets, and library certification. We’ve read articles & budget proposals and talked to experts so we can break information down and pass it onto you to help us prepare for town meeting. If you have questions please reach out to us at lynnfieldfriends@gmail.com or email LPL Director Abby Porter at aporter@noblenet.org. FOLL might not have all the answers but we will do our best to help our community understand impacts of the Library with and without the override to make an informed decision come Town Meeting 4/29 and at the ballot 6/4...

Grid of ways the Lynnfield Public Library will be affected if the override doesn't pass

April Newsletter – Potential budget impacts for Lynnfield Library

With talks of an override and town budget issues, we want to let our community know and understand more about Public Libraries. Even with an override, the current override budget does not correct the Lynnfield Library budget. While the budget will not be as drastically reduced with an override, it is still being reduced to the point of below the MBLC’s Library certification requirements threshold.

What does Library De-Certification mean?

The short answer for the biggest impacts if the Lynnfield Library is decertified (without a waiver) means….

What municipalities are eligible with and without being state aid certified.

March Newsletter

If you missed our email earlier this week about Library Advocacy please read about it here. Proposed state funding is FLAT, this means the same amount of money for resources that have increased in costs leading to a reduction in materials, services, etc. Now more than ever, with no current funds for the Lynnfield Public Library building we need state support. Please reach out to our local state reps so they know this is an issue that matters to their constituents!

The Highlights for the March Newsletter include: wrapping up the annual appeal, March Pop-Up Book Sale, FUNDrive, monthly meeting, and openings for board and volunteer positions.

Call to Action! – State Library Funding Needs Your Help!

Each year Massachusetts provides State funding for local libraries. The budget request is made by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC). Governor Healy has submitted her budget to the Legislature, calling for flat funding for Libraries in the 2026 budget.

We encourage Friends to reach out to reps and provide a template. Please click the link to the full newsletter to understand more, find resources, and the template.

February Newsletter

FOLL wants to extend its deepest thanks for your support over the past year trying to advocate for the new building and renovation project. While the renovation vote, unfortunately, did not pass the Friends would like to share our appreciation for all our Library supporters. Thank you for hosting signs, showing up at town meetings and the ballot, for advocating the impact the Lynnfield Library has on our community and its potential if we invest in it.

In this newsletter you will also learn about the Annual Appeal, monthly meeting, FOLL Board positions, March pop-up book sale, and FUNDrive.
