Lynnfield Library Board of Trustees and the Board of the Friends of the Library Potluck Dinner

The Board of Trustees of the Library and Board of the Friends of the Library pose for a photo at the end of their Potluck dinner

The Board of Trustees of the Lynnfield Library and the Board of the Friends of the Library enjoyed a joint potluck dinner at the Lynnfield meeting house on October 25, 2012.  Issues of mutual importance were discussed, with the joint goal of optimizing library services.  The Trustees/Friends expressed great satisfaction with the success of the recent book sale and agreed to consider ways to make it even better next year.   We also conversed about final arrangements for the upcoming “Dining for a Cause” fundraiser at the “99 Restaurant and Pub.”   Many delicious selections were provided by the members for the Potluck dinner.  Thanks are in order to Ann Decker for coordinating the event.

The Annual Used Book Sale on October 20 sponsored by the Friends of the Library was very successful!  Many thanks to all those who contributed their time and efforts over several months to make it a success.   Among those whose efforts should be recognized are Linda Burns, Book Sale Chairperson; Nancy Ryan, Library Director; Alexis Gilbode, Logistics Coordinator; Janine Saldahna, Friends’ President; and Sue Durkee’s sorting group.   Thanks are also in order to all those who donated and purchased books or joined or renewed their Friends membership.

Many enjoyed browsing the wide variety of selections available at the sale and brought home armfuls of books.  We expect that they will have countless hours of reading pleasure.

The Friends of the Lynnfield Library are actively seeking donations of gently used books, music CDs, and DVDs in preparation for the popular annual Used Book Sale in October. To assist residents who would like to donate materials, we offer a home pick-up service. If you have paperbacks, hardcover books, music CDs, or DVDs to donate, simply call Friends’ Board Member Alexis Gilbode at 781-608-4179 to arrange a time for a Friends’ volunteer to pick up your donations at home and provide you with a receipt. Otherwise, please leave boxed or bagged donations at the circulation desk or in the Library foyer. Small and large adult paperbacks, DVDs, music CDs, and hardcover or paperback children’s and young adult books are needed.

“Because people have so many options about where to donate,” said Nancy Ryan, Director of Lynnfield Library, “we strive to make the donation process as convenient as possible. The fall Book Sale has been our primary fundraiser for many years and we hope to continue the tradition.” Items that go unsold will be offered to benefit other local community organizations.

The annual Used Book Sale will take place on Saturday, October 20 in the Meeting House from 9am to 2pm. The “Bag of Books for $4.00 Sale” will take place from 1pm to 2pm. We provide the bags. The Friends’ Preview will take place at the Meeting House on Friday, October 19 from 6pm to 8pm. To be eligible to attend the Friends’ Preview, individuals must be a member or join the organization that evening. All are welcome. Information on
joining the Friends is available by clicking on “Join the Friends” tab.

All donations to the Book Sale support The Friends of the Lynnfield Library. The Friends is a non-profit organization that supports the many programs and activities of the Library both financially and through hundreds of volunteer hours each year.
