The Friends of the Lynnfield Library are really pleased with the results of the Annual Fall Book Sale. President Priscilla March expressed her gratitude to all participants in a “Letter to the Editor” to the local newspapers.
The correspondence reads in part, “The Friends of the Lynnfield Library would like to thank everyone who helped make this year’s annual Book Sale a success. Many volunteers and Library staff members give countless hours to plan, organize and operate the Book Sale, which serves as the Friends’ signature fund-raiser each year. Volunteers and Friends request and pick-up residents’ book donations, sort and organize donated items, develop publicity, recruit and schedule volunteers, move and set-up materials in the Meeting House, provide cashiering help, and handle myriad other details involved in operations and logistics on the day of the sale. It’s a big job and we very much appreciate all the many people who lend their hands to the work.”
Attendance at the preview event (reserved for Friends only) was great. Longtime Friend Joanne Paine dropped in with her grandson Louis Paine. It’s really fabulous that in many cases the love of literature, and the public lending libraries that enable it, is multi-generational.
The Paine’s were not the only family participating in the event. Daughter and Mother, Judie and Marjorie Potter respectively, were among those who explored the selections to their hearts’ content.
Adults and children joined in the browsing/buying fest. Emma Greenleaf picked up early readers, while her mom Ann Marie opted for cook books. The book sale had just the right choices for “friendly” customers.
October 18, the day of the public sale, was beautiful, warm and sunny. Locals invaded the Meeting House early, searching out their favorite genres, perusing the titles, and making their selections. Lisa McDonough (below) added copious quantities of books to her collection of classics. She and daughter Grace volunteered their time in the Children’s section on the second floor of the Meeting House.
In Lynnfield, it’s evident that the Friends of the Library know how to run a “rockin” book sale. We received lots of compliments from customers enthused about the wide variety of offerings and the quality of books, DVDs and CD’s. The funds raised from this collaborative effort will be used to support Adult and Children’s programming at the library, the discounted museum pass program, the rental DVD collection and other financial needs as they arise. The Friends of the Lynnfield Library are delighted to be able to support our local public library.
